The garden is divided into 9 parts celebrating 9 aspects of gardens all over the world. The sea, the sky, the bay of Villefranche , are more than a nice beginning and if you add the statues of Nathalie Decoster and some lyric songs, it becomes a real must for visitors. (Check their web site for dates).
In
Nice, any artists have been working using windows as a motive. The frame of the paintings and the windows are both an opening, allowing us to see behind, (don't you agree?). I specially think of Matisse and Dufy paintings representing windows. One hundred paintings and drawings of Chagall’s experimental works around dream, the inside and the outside worlds, are expecting your visit at the
Marc Chagall, National Museum on Avenue du doctor Menard (except Tuesdays). His works will be there until October 13th.
In
Cannes , children of all ages will enjoy the fireworks after 10pm on August 7th, 15th and 24th.
Fall is a special season in the
Champagne area simply because it's the time of the harvest. You certainly won't go picking grapes, so I suggest you pay a visit to the Pommery vine house.
As you might know France is in charge of the European Community presidency for six months. To celebrate this event, the Champagne Producer Pommery has invited 2 artists from each of the 27 European countries to exhibit some of their pieces. This most unusual visit of these chalk galleries under the hill of Reims will help you imagine the artistic Europe as a whole.
In a very close neighborhood stands the excellent Relais and Chateaux: Les Crayeres, this just may be the opportunity to enjoy a king’s meal with the best local wine...
The Parisian event of September might well be a gala at the Paris Opera. On the 18th of September,
the New York Ballet and the Paris Ballet will dance together in a number choreographed especially for this event. Maybe, and only maybe, it is not too late to call your scalper.
Between Heaven and Earth:
Mont Saint Michel. Why have humans often linked mountains and religion? Don’t expect me to give you the answer, but rather go to the Mont Saint Michel (4 hours drive from Paris) to enjoy some 160 something pictures by
Jean Michel Guillaud of eleven sacred mountains from all over the world elected among the UNESCO list of 30 unique mountains registered as World Heritage. Pictures are pleasantly and intelligently disseminated around the city and the abbey. The best time to visit is during the evening when the crowds are gone. Luckily the exhibition is open until 23.30 (11:30pm). The last entrance at 22.30 (10:30pm). My best tip here is do not miss the Cloister, it’s absolutely breathtaking. I give you this advice so you know that only 1/5 of the Mounts visitors climb the many steps to the Sanctuary. It is worth the effort and they are many spots to stop, enjoy the views and catch your breath. It will be running till November 11th. Gourmets should try to book a table at
Olivier Rollinger place in Cancale.
From October 8th till February 2nd, the Grand Palais will hold an exhibition dedicated to Picasso and the Masters.
